Global Visionaries' Cafe

As an organization based in Seattle, debatably the coffee capital of the world, it only made sense for Global Visionaries to include the caffeine-infused bean in its fundraising efforts. And, just like most things around here, we did it in a unique way to promote our values of social justice and environmental stewardship.

When you buy GV cafe, you're getting the best. We sell organic, direct-trade, shade-grown coffee from a youth-run micro-business called Espresso de Esperanza in Guatemala. Espresso de Esperanza is a coffee roasting company founded by five teenagers as a result of direct support from GV. Espresso de Esperanza provides all of the delicious coffee for our best fundraiser!

Not only is our coffee good, but so is our cause. All proceeds from coffee sales go toward students' program costs and help them afford a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to travel to Guatemala for 9 days of volunteer work, cultural immersion, and environmental and social justice education. Global Visionaries is always working to create new opportunities and community partners. Currently, one of our exciting projects is a traveling Starbucks photo exhibit. Thanks to our Marketing/PR team and talented photographer Max Kelly, this exhibit, featuring beautiful photos from the Guatemala trip, is making its way around Seattle's Starbucks and spreading the word about GV's work and mission. Look for us in a Starbucks near you!

GV Coffee Sales: How it works

Global Visionaries orders coffee from Espresso de Esperanza at wholesale price. We offer French and dark roasts either ground or whole bean. Once the coffee is imported, students can buy it from GV on credit for the same price we paid for it. We keep track of how much each student owes for coffee, but they don't have to pay until later. Students then go out and sell the coffee at retail price. Upon returning their proceeds to GV, part of the money goes to pay the original cost of the coffee, but the profit is applied to their accounts to help with program fees and trip costs.

GV cafe is a great fundraiser for students. Because it is more affordable than some of the other fundraisers, it is perfect for those looking to sell to neighbors and parents' co-workers. It also makes a fantastic gift for the holidays, but unlike wreaths and garlands, coffee sales continue year-round, so students can keep earning money outside of the holiday season!
