Long Term Volunteer Program
The Long Term Volunteer (LTV) program is a two year process of leadership and development among the Global Visionaries (GV) community in Seattle as well as in Guatemala. Students who choose to participate in this leadership role start the LTV process at the beginning of their senior year. During that time the participants learn more about the program as well as planning for their gap year. LTVs choose to take a year off between high school and college and spend that gap year volunteering and making a difference in their own community as well as in Guatemala. While the participants are involved during their senior year they will plan projects that will take place for six months in Seattle and six months in Guatemala during their gap year.
Many students who participate in the GV Leadership Program express interest in continuing their relationship with GV and the people of Guatemala. The LTV Program provides GV students with an opportunity to spend a year and a half learning about GV from the inside- working in the office, on self-designed projects, and as a trip leader in Guatemala.
The job description for a LTV in Seattle is becoming a proactive leader in the recruiting process at the beginning of the year as well as being a program assistant for the office to support future participants for a smooth transition into the actual trip itself. During their stay in Guatemala it is expected again for a LTV to participate in the recruiting process for teens from Guatemala. The LTV in Guatemala will also assist the trips with logistics such as transportation, food and home stays as well as more general things such as support for the participants so that the first year participants experience is as inspiring as the LTV's.
Each year Global Visionaries strives towards developing more ways to get youth involved in more leadership roles within the program. The LTV program gives youth an opportunity to continue being an agent of change and overall independent adults as well as thoughtful learners and leaders.
