Christopher Fontana, Executive Director

Christopher Fontana, M.A. was recently honored by Seattle University’s Albers School of Business having won the 2011 Redwinged Leadership Award. Watch the Video.
Mr. Fontana holds an A.B. degree from Washington University, St. Louis and an M.A. in Whole Systems Design (emphasis in Curriculum Design for Ecological Education) from Antioch University, Seattle, WA. He was selected as Antioch Alum of the Year 2007. He co-founded and is Executive Director of Global Visionaries (GV) since 1999. Chris Fontana has led over 700 students and adults to Guatemala and Costa Rica since 1997. Chris has an extensive background in cross-cultural training having resided in Spain for one year, Chile for three summers and Mexico for one summer as well as traveled extensively throughout Central America, Europe and Egypt, and Asia.
In 1992-5, he was co-founder and adult organizer of YES, the youth-organized Global Youth Environmental Summits of 1993 and 95. The 1995 Summit, sponsored by the United Nations Environmental Program brought 300 high school students from 32 countries and 40 States together for one week of education in environmental and peace issues, social action and leadership skills, and direct environmental service. He won the 1995 Colorado Partners in Education Award for this effort.
Mr. Fontana taught Spanish for 13 years at Niles West High School in Skokie, Illinois and Islander Middle School in Mercer Island. He co-created the curriculum for and taught Global Leadership at the Global Studies Academy at Cleveland High School in Seattle two years. In 2008, he was an honoree of the Thomas C. Wales Passionate Citizen Award.
